#1 A Fathers Love

I’ve watched this video numerous times and every time I cry because it symbolizes so much!  Know that when we feel we can’t go on our Heavenly Father is watching and ready to help!  As we look to the beginning of a new year remember that you are not alone!  God wants to go with you throughout the new year and all of your years to come!  Lean on him, as this son leaned on his loving father in the story, and he will help you finish your race!

#2 A Baseball Game and War

When I found my old All-Star Baseball Game at a flea market I didn’t realize the memory that it would take me to!  Yet here I was all of these years later remembering a day that was fun and games for my younger cousin and I.  My older cousin was in a game too.  The results of that game would decide his future.  all-star-baseball-game-2

#3 What Is Your Hometown Like?

Kalamazoo

Years ago a train employee was asked a simple question by two different individuals within a week.  The question was “What is this town like?”  To the first individual his conclusion was very negative and to the second very positive.  How can this be?  Most of the variables were the same.  It was the same train employee talking about the same town in the same time frame.  The only variable that was different seemed to be the person who asked the question.

#4 Electric Football, A Good Vibration

Electric Football Game

Sometimes when we look back on things we get a different perspective than what we had at the time.  This is the case of my old electric football game and players.  Sometimes I would line up all of the players and have a race to the other end of the field.  What I realize now is that the actions that these players had is very similar to how we run our race to heaven!

#5 Somehow It Was Enough

kids growing up

I have many fond memories of my childhood!  I had numerous friends and we constantly had some kind of game going.  Our games were played outside and we didn’t spend nearly as much time indoors as kids do today.  We didn’t have hundreds of channels on our TV and we surely didn’t have cell phones or computers.  Most kids today would probably think we didn’t have a lot.  As far as modern technology they are right.  What we had though were things money couldn’t buy!

#6 Studied Long and Studied Wrong

Studied long but studied wrong

How many times do we kick ourselves for not trusting our first instincts?  Jesus said in Mark chapter 14 verse 15 “I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter.”  What does that mean like a little child?  Little children  are trusting and accept things as they are.  They don’t question everything and everybody.  Somewhere between childhood and adulthood we are taught to question things.  It is part of our education process.  As we question we get away from our child like faith that Jesus talks about as a key to entering the kingdom of God.

#7 Dropping the Weight of Unforgiveness-The Jim Ryun Story

Is there someone in your life that you haven’t forgiven?  For a long time that was the case for Jim Ryun.  He found himself bitter and had no desire to watch the Olympic games after what happened to him.  He blamed the Olympic official for not making the decision Jim felt in his heart he should have made.  He spent years in training for the event only to have it come to a tragic end.  But Jim finally took the matter to God!  God in his mercy released Jim from the weight of not forgiving!  He truly learned how to forgive and has dropped the heavy weight that was holding him back!

From Olympic runner to U.S Congressman

#8 I’m Scared

We’ve all heard the term “God fearing.” As in he is a very God fearing man! Burton Cummings was not that guy. That was until he had a strange experience in New York City that culminated in him writing the song “I’m Scared.” I rate this song one of the most inspirational christian songs I know. It is not because of the righteousness of the man that sang it. It is a song of a questioning young man, much like all of us question at one time or another. He came to a point in his life where something monumental was being shown to him. His reaction was fear as he realized that things he considered important weren’t very important at all. Burton was not seeking God that day when he walked into that church. He was just keeping warm on a cold day. But God had other plans and touched him when he heard the choir singing. Burton had an encounter with God. He received the warmth he was seeking, but it was in his spirit and it was so powerful that all he could do was fall down on his knees! Burton C

#9 Hello Charlie Goodbye Shine

This story came alive when I thought about our parking lot at work one day and all of the cars in it. What would the conversation be like if cars could talk? As the story unfolded it seems that the conversations would be similar to what people have. There would be good memories of the past and friends not seen in a long time! There would be a lot of catching up to do on the whereabouts of past friends. There would probably be some tragedy and some laughs. Of course there would be some reflections of where they were and where they are going. So return to the parking lot one more time with me!

#10 Elvis Eats Here

In the mid 1980’s there was a flair of excitement in our city! Elvis Presley was seen in a local Burger King! Oh wait, didn’t Elvis die in 1977? Well according to the tabloid he was alive and well in Kalamazoo! Which brings us to the old saying, “don’t believe everything you hear.” In this case don’t believe everything you see either! After awhile things settled down, but for that brief time Kalamazoo was buzzing! ELVIS
